An Onshape Part Studio is a container used to create and edit parts, surfaces, and sketches. The Part Studio lives in a tab within a document and generally consists of the Feature toolbar, the Feature list, and the graphics area containing the model. The Part Studio is not a model, rather it is a design environment meant for designing parts that need to share common references. As a best practice for performance, parts for the entire assembly should not all be modeled in a single Part Studio. Only the parts that must share common references should be in the same Part Studio. When it is time to assemble parts, you can use parts from multiple Part Studios, even from different documents in the same Assembly.Should you have a need to share common geometric references between a large number of parts, use the Derived part or the In context feature to maintain relationships between geometries from other Part Studios which enable keeping individual Part Studios smaller. To learn more about creating multiple parts in one Part Studio, you can follow the self-paced course here: Multi-Part Part Studios (Onshape account required). Access the shortcut toolbar with the S key while in a Part Studio, Drawing or Assembly tab.

Guidelines are: no more than 200 features in one studio. It gets cluttered fast with many parts though.Design everything in one studio & pull it into an assembly to mate it together ... I have been designing sub-assemblies in separate parts studios using derive. You typically model a design in multiple part studios.I tend to design 5-10 parts in a single studio, maximum.

Assume that the other (receiving) Part Studio instance already contains a populated feature tree that needs to be preserved*. Note: The "Derived part" function does not copy/move the feature tree**. Example usage** Suppose that multiple parts have been created in individual Part Studios and that these parts have many (dimensional) inter-dependencies.In an assembly, these dependencies can be realized by in-context editing, or, alternatively, the user simply adjust each Part Studio manually which can be error-prone. Now if the parts need no relative movement, then a Part Studio may be a simpler option because dependencies can be realized without (switching) contexts. This insight may emerge only after already creating a substantial feature tree for each Part Studio. Recreating these features in the "part combining" Part Studio would cost additional time. Instead, moving parts including their tree would avoid that. * Added after Konstantin Shiriazdanov's reply. Why would you need to copy single part from studio to another with feature history (maybe we can find you another path)? ... the geometry of a part can be copied to another part studio using "derive" instrument, but feature history of a part will not be included, and actually it will be another part just with the same geometry.
The Long Walk treadmill screening challenge went ahead, with Lionsgate revealing the hardest part of the test.
You might think that walking non-stop for an entire movie would be physically demanding, but according to Lionsgate, the hardest part was the emotional side of things. ... Explore Onshape’s import capabilities and learn how you can redefine the structure and Part Studio of your imported model.
This Tech Tip teaches you the fourth method that combines the best of both worlds: You can have the assembly structure with the correct number of components and all components placed at their original positions in Part Studios.Begin the import process by choosing the Import to a single document option. This creates a document with assembly tabs, a Part Studio tab with the existing assembly structure, and a tab containing the imported file.Depending on how structured the imported model is, it may already have different levels of subassemblies or be totally flat. It is important to take some time to review the structure and identify components that belong to the same Part Studio, such as structural parts like frames, enclosures, PCB components, or COTS parts like bearings.Once the assembly structure is finalized, export the components as a Parasolid file to a new tab. Re-import the Parasolid file, but this time, choose Combine to a single Part Studio. This creates a Part Studio with components that maintain their relative positions.

I'm new to MCAD and starting to learn with onshape. One thing I'm not clear on and haven't found guidance is how many parts in one part studio. When I watch the video tutorials, I see that there's usually several different unrelated parts in one studio, rather than 1 part per studio. So is there any best practices out there I should be aware of? Should I be putting like parts in one studio? IE all the 2020 aluminium extrusions in one part studio and a separate one for all bushings? My worry is too many parts in one studio would complicate editing those individual parts. But with this approach suppose feature list becomes too complex to handle, user can create remaining parts in another part studio for simplification. ... you can create any number of parts in one part studio, even though these parts are independent on each other.I think you can arrange all parts by yourself, at this point,.there is no big difference between Onshape and some traditional software like proe , NX and so on. if you create many parts in one part studio, this method is called "top-down",when you create new parts ,you can get reference from the previous parts.you can create parts of every sub assembly in every part studio, you also can insert parts from other part studio even other documents by "derived" features, it is very flexible. ... The owners of a Phoenix Hill neighborhood residence in Louisville requested a new third-floor access to an existing deck outside an Airbnb studio unit. The solution aimed to minimize the stair footprint in the limited outdoor space while providing beautiful spaces to take in the views over adjacent rooftops. This proposal was completed at Luckett & Farley, where Nathan Smith was design director between 06/19 and 01/22. Located in Campbellsburg, KY, the event pavilion was part of a larger master plan for Rabbit Hole Distillery’s Henry County campus. The design sought to embed itself in the narrative of the Kentucky landscape and the production of bourbon. This project was created for the City of Louisville as part of the Connect/Disconnect: A Public Art Experience program. The In/Out table is an interpretation of a satellite office space for Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. The table was installed at the Kentucky Center for the Arts during the annual IdeaFestival, where it was used as a space for discussions and informal meetings with the Mayor. As a run-up to the festival, PART organized a design competition for temporary pavilions to accommodate various activities along the wharf. This competition culminated in the “Current Affairs” exhibition at KMAC.

Hello, is there a way to copy a part with all sketches, extrusions and other steps to another Part Studio?
I am familiar with Derived, but this method only copies the part itself, meaning that it can only be edited in the original Part Studio, whereas I would like to edit it in the Part Studio to which it was copied.I didn't have any problem to construct the screw with the ThreadCreator, but I had first designed everything in one single studio, and afterwards rebuild every part in its own studio, but as the screw shouldn't first be modified I wanted to use the existing one.You can literally copy the part studio, which creates an independent but similar - until you start changing it - set of features.I can copy the part studio but I don't succeed in pasting it.

This design method hinges on the principle that changing a parameter updates the design automatically, thereby enhancing efficiency and versatility in the design process. This is taken a step further with the Onshape “Part Studio” approach, where part relationships can be made in a cohesive and flexible manner.Onshape's Part Studios environment enhances parametric design, enabling the creation and editing of parts, surfaces, and sketches. It simplifies early design stages by using a single parametric history for reliable part relationships, facilitating top-down design.Parts from Part Studios integrate seamlessly into assemblies, BOMs, Release Management, and more.Onshape's built-in PDM enables collaborative Part Studio design in real-time, while branch and merge and the “infinite undo” abilities support risk-free experimentation.
